Eliminate hunger at UNM

The Lobo Food Pantry wants to eliminate hunger as a barrier to UNM student success. We want students to focus their best energy on their educational experience, not on finding their next meal. With your gift, UNM students will be able to pick up essentials, including some prepared meals and supplies to help stock the shelves at home.

Too many students live on meager budgets and skip meals because they lack funds. The UNM Basic Needs Project found that both food and housing insecurity prevalence are higher among students than in the broader population of New Mexico. Poorly nourished students lose focus in the classroom and have a harder time completing degrees. In a country where food is plentiful, we can do better.

Since 2014 the Lobo Food Pantry has aimed to serve students in a respectful and convenient way, making the most of our partnership with Roadrunner Foodbank of New Mexico and by hosting mobile food pantries on campus.

The BIG news is that starting in fall 2021 the Lobo Food Pantry will open a permanent service space in the SUB on main campus.

Launching the pantry space in the SUB means we need a reliable supply of food and toiletries. We also must invest in equipment, like refrigerators and commercial shelving. Your gifts will help us do all of this—providing a whole new level of support and service to Lobos who need a helping hand.

Please make your gift today.
